A suspected or confirmed cancer diagnosis brings many questions. Most families from Varanasi, Chandauli, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Mirzapur and Bhadohi tell us the first visit is the hardest part, mainly because they do not know what to expect. This guide explains it step by step.

Before you leave home

Collect every medical paper you have, even old ones. The oncologist will want to see:

  • Biopsy / histopathology report (and the slides or blocks if your earlier lab gave them)
  • Scans: CT, MRI, PET-CT, ultrasound or mammogram reports, with the CD or film
  • Blood tests from the last few weeks
  • Discharge summaries if there was any earlier surgery or admission
  • A written list of medicines you take now, including Ayurvedic or home remedies
  • Aadhaar card, and your Ayushman Bharat card if you have one

Keep everything in one file in date order. It saves time and helps the doctor see the full picture.

Booking: same-day appointment

You do not need a referral. Call +91 99307 09000 and tell our team the type of cancer (or the symptom), your city and the reports you have. We will try to give you a same-day appointment with a cancer specialist at our Varanasi hospital on Dafi Highway, Amara Bypass.

What happens during the consultation

  1. History: the doctor asks about symptoms, when they began, family history, habits such as tobacco or gutkha, and other illnesses like diabetes or BP.
  2. Examination: a physical check of the affected area and nearby lymph nodes.
  3. Report review: the doctor goes through every report you brought.
  4. Next steps: if the diagnosis is not yet confirmed, the doctor may advise a biopsy or scan such as PET-CT. If it is confirmed, the doctor explains the stage and treatment options, for example surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy or targeted therapy, and palliative care where needed.

Ask questions freely. It helps to bring one family member who can take notes.

Questions worth asking

  • What type and stage of cancer is this?
  • What treatment do you suggest, and why?
  • How many sessions or days of admission will be needed?
  • What side effects should we watch for at home?
  • Can the treatment be covered under Ayushman Bharat or my insurance?

Cost and Ayushman Bharat

The exact cost depends on the type and stage of cancer, so the team gives an estimate only after the doctor has reviewed your reports. ZenHeal works with Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) and cashless insurance for eligible patients; our help desk will check your eligibility on the spot.

Can't travel yet?

If the patient is too unwell to travel, you can first consult an oncologist on video. Call +91 99307 09000 to set it up.
