Warning signs of esophageal cancer
- Difficulty swallowing solids, then liquids
- Food sticking in the chest or regurgitation
- Unexplained weight loss
- Chest pain or burning that does not settle
- Hoarse voice or persistent cough in advanced disease

Upper GI endoscopy and biopsy
Confirms the cancer and its type.

Show the length of the tumour and whether lymph nodes or distant sites are involved.

Sometimes used to judge how deep the tumour goes into the wall of the food pipe.
Treatment options
